Golf Swing Replay for Home Net Practice

Keep one device fixed on your swing and a second replay screen beside the mat. See the movement after each ball into the net, then get ready for the next shot.

What replay adds to home net practice

At a hitting net, you can feel the strike, but you cannot watch a full ball flight. A swing replay gives you another piece of feedback: a view of your setup, movement, and finish from the same angle after each shot.

SwingLoop separates the two jobs. The Camera device stays on a stand where it can see your whole swing. The Replay device sits where you can look at it after the finish. The app detects the swing, prepares the clip, and sends it directly to the replay screen.

Video shows your movement; SwingLoop does not measure carry distance, ball speed, or spin. If you use a launch monitor, review its numbers alongside the clip rather than treating the video as a replacement for those measurements.

Set up the net, mat, and devices

Start with your net manufacturer’s instructions for ball distance, anchoring, and clearance. Check that your longest club has room through the entire swing. Keep both devices and their stands outside the club path and any area a ball could strike or rebound into.

For the two-device setup, you need:

  • Two compatible iPhones or iPads running iOS 16.4 or later, with the current SwingLoop version installed.
  • A stable stand or tripod for the filming device.
  • A protected, visible position for the replay screen beside the practice area.
  • Enough light and camera distance to show your whole body and club.

An iPhone can do the filming while an iPad provides a larger replay screen. Two iPhones or two iPads work too. One active subscription covers compatible devices signed in to the same Apple ID.

Choose a camera angle you can repeat

For a down-the-line view, put the filming device behind you, aimed parallel to the target line. Use a consistent reference such as the line through your hands at address, or follow your coach’s preferred alignment.

For a face-on view, put the camera opposite the middle of your body, perpendicular to the target line. Only use this position if your practice space has a protected spot for the device outside the swing and ball paths.

Start with the lens around hand height and move the stand far enough back to fit your shoes, head, and club at both the top and finish. A frame that fits your address position may still cut off the club during the swing.

If the garage or room cannot fit both a safe swing and a complete camera view, change the practice location. Do not squeeze a stand into the hitting area to force an angle. The camera-placement guide covers both views in more detail.

Pair the camera and replay screen

  1. Open SwingLoop on the device beside the mat and choose Replay.
  2. Choose Camera on the filming device.
  3. Scan the replay screen’s QR code or select its name from the nearby list.
  4. Allow Local Network access when iOS asks, and keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on.
  5. Keep both apps open and confirm they have connected before beginning.

The devices connect directly; they do not need to join your home Wi-Fi network. Downloading the app, purchasing, restoring, and occasional subscription verification still require internet. Use the pairing troubleshooting guide if the devices cannot find each other.

Match replay timing to your routine

Start with a short replay delay, such as two or three seconds. Take a swing, hold the finish, then look toward the screen. Adjust the delay if you look up after the video has already started or find yourself waiting too long.

Use full speed to review the overall motion. Switch to half or quarter speed when you want a closer look at a position. SwingLoop offers replay delays from zero to fifteen seconds; the clip must be ready before playback starts.

Before a longer practice block, check one test swing. Confirm that it recorded, the whole club stayed in frame, and the replay arrived where and when you expected it. Keep the camera in that position for the rest of the block.

Give each practice block one question

Choose something specific to observe, ideally from a drill or cue you already use. For example: did you hold your finish, or did the club stay within the intended backswing length?

Watch the replay, make one adjustment, and hit the next ball. Save a baseline and a later attempt from the same angle, then compare them side by side. Label useful clips by club or drill so you can find them next time or share them with your coach.

Save the clips you want to keep before ending the temporary replay session. You do not need to save every shot to build a useful record.

Practicing with one device today?

SwingLoop also includes Single device mode. The front camera films the swing, the same screen plays it back, and the camera returns after playback. Position the screen where you can see it after your shot and wait for filming to resume before swinging again.

The two-device system lets you position the camera and replay screen independently. Follow the complete two-device setup guide when you want a dedicated monitor beside your home net.
