Record and Replay Your Golf Swing With One iPhone
One iPhone or iPad can film your swing and show the replay. Single device mode uses the front camera, plays the completed swing on the same screen, then returns to filming.
What you need
You need one compatible iPhone or iPad running iOS 16.4 or later, the current SwingLoop app, an active subscription, and a stable stand. You do not need a second device or a nearby pairing session for this mode.
Download the app and verify subscription access while you have internet. Recording and replay happen on the device, but purchases, restores, and occasional subscription verification still need an internet connection.
Set up the front camera
- Open SwingLoop and choose Single device on the home screen.
- Allow camera access when prompted.
- Place the device on a stable stand with its screen and front camera facing you.
- Frame your body from head to feet. Leave room for the club at the top of the backswing and through the finish.
- Check that you can see the screen after your shot without moving the stand.
- Let the camera settle and confirm that the app is ready before swinging.
Keep the device outside the club path and anywhere a ball could strike or rebound into. Use the camera-placement guide to choose a repeatable face-on or down-the-line angle.
The image on the home screen shows mode selection. Once you choose Single device, the front-camera view is where you check your framing.
Let recording and replay take turns
SwingLoop looks for the swing, records it, prepares the clip, and plays it back on the same screen. After playback, the camera returns for your next ball.
Wait until the camera is back and ready before making another swing. While the screen is showing a replay, it is not ready to capture the next shot. Keeping that pause in your routine helps avoid a missed recording.
Start with one test swing. Check that your body and club stay in frame, that the replay appears, and that the camera resumes afterward.
Choose replay speed and delay
Use normal speed to see the full motion, or half or quarter speed to inspect a position. The replay delay can be set from zero to fifteen seconds.
A short delay gives you time to hold your finish and look at the screen. If you look up after playback has started, increase it. If you spend too long waiting, shorten it. Clip preparation still has to finish before the replay can begin.
Keep the swings you want to review
Save a useful clip before ending the temporary practice session. Saved swings can be labelled, reviewed later, and compared with another saved video. Follow the comparison and drawing guide when you want to inspect a change across two attempts.
If you use a paired Apple Watch, you can also save the latest completed swing from your wrist. Keep the practice session open on the iPhone while using the watch.
One device or two?
| Choose one device when… | Choose two devices when… |
|---|---|
| You want to set up with one iPhone or iPad. | You want the camera and replay screen in separate positions. |
| You can see the filming device’s screen after the shot. | Your best camera angle puts its screen out of view. |
| The front camera gives you a clear, complete view. | You want a fixed filming device and a dedicated monitor beside the mat. |
The two-device setup works with two iPhones, two iPads, or one of each. The devices connect directly without joining a Wi-Fi network.
If a swing is missed
Check the camera view first. Make sure your head and feet are visible, the device is fixed, and you are not silhouetted against a bright window or sky. Wait for the app to return from replay before trying again.
If the framing is clear but detection still misses your swing, review the detection sensitivity and hold-time settings. Change one setting at a time and test with another swing. If the camera cannot open, check SwingLoop’s camera permission in iOS Settings.
For more help, use SwingLoop Support and include your device model, iOS version, and what the app shows when the recording is missed.
